This annual conference is the largest congress on Eating Disorders in German speaking countries. This year we would like to invite you to celebrate the 15th International Eating Disorders Congress in Austria. Colleagues from all over Europe and specifically from Central and East-European reform countries are cordially invited; we are planning to offer continuous English tracks.The Conference is aimed at presenting the present status of research, treatment, and prevention into eating disorders and obesity and to promote scientific and clinical contacts. All sessions are open to sufferers, relatives, and experts, according to the policy of the Netzwerk Essstörungen, the Austrian Network & Clearinghouse for Eating Disorders (founded in 1990).The Congress deals with sociocultural issues of eating disorders, in particular with societal pressures towards thinness and women’s role at the beginning of the 21st century. The focus is on psychological treatments, but other treatments will be covered. Main topics include (guided) self-help, self-help groups, outpatient & in-patient treatment, parent & family support, and family therapy. The present status of early detection, treatment, prevention and health promotion will be critically reviewed. To bridge the gap between eating disorders and obesity, a special section will deal with recent approaches in obesity treatment counteracting the sociocultural obsession with thinness. In addition, the present status of the campaign “Worldwide Action on Eating Disorders” will be presented. The conference will appeal to all medical, health and social care professionals (GP´s, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, dieticians, nutritionists, counsellors, nurses, social workers, teachers etc) who are interested in the assessment, treatment and prevention of eating disorders and obesity.
